Who We Are
Since AAMFT was founded in 1942, it has been involved with the problems, needs and changing patterns of couples and family relationships. The association leads the way to increasing understanding, research and education in the field of marriage and family therapy, and ensuring that the public's needs are met by trained practitioners. The OAMFT along with the support of AAMFT provides individuals with the tools and resources they need to succeed as marriage and family therapists.

Our members meet rigorous standards for education and training and are held to the highest ethical standards of the profession. Clinical Members have met the highest standards of the profession for education and clinical experience. Associate and Student membership categories are available for therapists in training for clinical practice. Members of allied professions and other persons who are interested in marriage and family therapy are eligible to become Affiliate Members.

What We Do
As a state division of the AAMFT, OAMFT advocates for legislative recognition and vocie in advancing the field of mental health, client rights/protections, and consumer choice. Our association also facilitates research, theory development and education. The AAMFT develop standards for graduate education and training, clinical supervision, professional ethics and the clinical practice of marriage and family therapy.

By becoming a member of the AAMFT from within the state of Oregon, you immediately become part of the constituency of the OAMFT.


Meet the Board

President Shelley Hanson, MA, LPC, LMFT
Shelley is a clinician in private practice in Tigard, Oregon.  Shelley has served on the OAMFT board since 2004.  www.therapyandcounselingservices.com

Past-President S Elizabeth Limbocker, LMFT
Elizabeth has served on the board since 1999 in the capacity of Secretary, President-Elect and President and is now completing her term as Past-President.  She has a private practice in Portland.

President-Elect Stephanie H. Miller, LMFT
Stephanie has been a Clinical AAMFT member since 2003 and maintains a private practice in Eugene.  Stephanie has served on the board since 2004.

Treasurer James Brown, LMFT

James has been a Clinical AAMFT member since 2000 and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor since 2004. He is currently employed by ColumbiaCare Services and also has a small private practice in Medford. James joined the board in 2009.

General Board Member Lara Barnes, MEd.
Lara is a graduate of the Couples and Family Therapy Program at the University of Oregon.  Lara has been with the board since 2007.

General Board Member Deanne Fahy, MA, LMFT, LPC
Deanne has been a clinical member of AAMFT since 1988, and has a private practice in downtown Portland.  Deanne joined the board in January 2008.  www.deannefahy.com


General Board Member James Prather, LCSW
James has been a clinical member of AAMFT since 1984.  He is currently employed by Children's Home Society of Vancouver, WA.  James joined the board in September of 2008 as a General Board Member.

Student Board Member Trish Rohani
Trish is a MFT student at George Fox University.  She joined the board in January 2009.


Legislative Chair Stepanie Meagher
Stephanie graduated from the Marriage and Family Therapy program at George Fox University and has a private practice in Portland. She joined the board in November 2009. www.stephaniemeagher.com

Board Job Descriptions


PRESIDENT-ELECT

The President-Elect shall serve two (2) years as President-Elect and two (2) years as President and will:

  • conduct meetings in the absence of the Divisional President. 
  • serve as liaison between the Board and the Annual Conference Committee. 
  • attend Leadership Training provided by AAMFT. 
  • work with the President and attend to other duties assigned by the President. 
  • shall keep the notebook current with minutes, budget, etc. and shall pass the notebook along to the next person who is elected as president-elect after the President-Elect’s term of office as Past President is finished.


SECRETARY-TREASURER

The Secretary-Treasurer shall serve a term of three (3) years and shall:

  • keep the records of all business meetings of the Division and of the Board of Directors. 
  • direct the distribution of minutes and reports as authorized by the by-laws and by the Board. 
  • serve as Chairperson of the Finance Committee. 
  • oversee the management of funds for the Division. 
  • prepare the annual budget and shall present periodic financial reports to the Board and to the annual meeting of the membership. 
  • work together with the administrative coordinator in keeping all records and insuring that the Division’s accounts are kept in good order. 
  • The Secretary-Treasurer shall train the new Secretary-Treasurer upon election to insure a smooth transition. 
  • The Secretary-Treasurer shall submit to AAMFT the financial report required by AAMFT by March 30 of each year. 
  • The Secretary-Treasurer shall keep notebook current, adding all pertinent information and passing the notebook along to the next secretary-treasurer.

 
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEMBERS

  The Board of Directors shall consist of three (3) directors, all of whom are members of AAMFT in good standing.  These individuals will represent Oregon, serving three-year (3) terms, staggered so that one shall be replaced each year. (Article V, Section 1).  Each director shall:

  • exercise all powers of the Division, except as specifically prohibited by the OAMFT by-laws and AAMFT by-laws. 
  • be authorized to adopt and publish such policies, procedures, and rules as may be necessary and consistent with OAMFT and AAMFT by-laws. 
  • meet at the call of the President and at least once each year, or at the written request of all, or at least three members of the Board directed to the Secretary-Treasurer. 

Each Board Member is entitled to one vote.

 

Each Board Member is responsible for the region of the state he/she represents by:

  • Attending networking luncheons and supporting membership in the district.
  • Contacting members to learn of concerns as well as receiving news of members and their accomplishments that can be passed on to the members as a whole. 

Each Board Member serves as a liaison to a committee, as determined by the President.

 

Each Board Member shall keep the notebook current with updated minutes, budget, etc. and pass it along to the member who is elected to take his/her place on the board of directors.

LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON

The Legislative Chair shall:

  • stay aware of all pertinent legislation that affects mental health issues in Oregon and may possibly impact MFTs and OAMFT and keep members informed of such issues. 
  • encourage OAMFT members to develop and maintain relationships with their Oregon legislators via letter writing campaigns, accolades for maintaining positive stances for families in Oregon , informational communiqués that may assist legislators in making family friendly decisions. 
  • write articles for the OAMFT newsletter to keep members at large informed of any legislative activities or issues that are of concern to the membership. 
  • attend Board meetings on a regular basis or when requested to do so. 
  • attend licensure board and regulatory board meetings.


STUDENT LIAISON MEMBER


The Student Member is the only Board member elected entirely by students and associate members of AAMFT. The student Board member's responsibility is twofold. The student member has a vote in all Board decisions and is elected to voice the concerns of the MFT students and post graduate interns in the state. In order to accurately do so, the student is expected to make and maintain contact with each of the four schools offering degrees or certificates in family therapy. Historically this has been done by connecting via email, outtings and classroom visits with both professors and students throughout the two year term. The Student member has the power to appoint student liasons at each of the institutions to facilitate this connection.
